Color is in this season! It’s the time of brightly patterned skirts and sandals. Summer is all about experiencing a vibrant and colorful mix of endless social possibilities. Get the girls together, and paint the town your favorite shade of fabulous.

Be a green girl, and party like a botanist at the Greenhouse ... a really cool botanist with cute shoes! Hidden away in Green Hills, the bar is set up in an actual greenhouse. Outside you will find a large patio complete with picnic tables, a fire pit and even a porch swing. Inside, enjoy a cold beer or a glass of wine among hanging plants and live trees. Mix and mingle around the bar or relax on one of the retro-looking couches in the back. There is usually a good adult crowd of young professionals and laid back regulars, making it a great place to snag a very “chill” evening sans loud music and dance floor groping.

Looking for a brighter shade of green? Head over to Lime, Midtown’s newest hot spot for cocktails and Latin-inspired cuisine. Be prepared for an evening with the pretty people of Nashville, because this is no Mexican dive with cheap margaritas and free chips. It’s a great place to debut that flirty little number you’ve been saving up for the right evening. Good for dinner or just drinks, Lime features a menu of brightly colored dishes and tapas that are complemented by the bar’s fresh sangria and lime-squeezed margaritas. Reservations are highly recommended, and don’t forget your dinero — the menu isn’t what I would consider “affordably priced.”

Not everyone can look good in red, but everyone can look good at the Red Door Saloon. My personal favorite place for a night out, you can see red at two locations: in Midtown and in the Five Points district of East Nashville. Both are equally enjoyable and offer an eclectic crowd of patrons to befriend. The Red Door is probably the only place in town you’ll see a sorority girl, a gay man and a biker co-existing with PBR and sugar-free Red Bull and vodka. This ultimate dive bar is filled with a collection of skeleton décor and might just unleash your inner bad girl. You won’t feel like a regular, though, until you know what’s under the bar floor. Both locations have a small hole in the floor, and if you are brave enough to get on your hands and knees to look you will get a good laugh. (I’m not just making this up to get you to crawl on the floor; there really is something down there, I promise!)

Add a splash of blue to your canvas by checking out one of Nashville’s great blues clubs. Though Memphis usually gets all of the credit, Nashville can also produce its share of soulful sounds. B.B. King’s on Second Avenue has live music every night and a great menu of barbeque, catfish and burgers. Stained glass windows, brightly painted tables and neon lights provide the perfect backdrop for an exciting night out with gal pals or for a fun and unique date. This is also a great place to bring visiting friends and family who are looking to experience a Nashville night out (just think: no line dancing!). About a block-and-a-half away is Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar in Printer’s Alley. Visit the website for a calendar of musicians on tap this summer.

Purple will always be in style as long as Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is still on Broadway. Or, stick to your basic black and head to Blackstone Brewery for award-winning brews and delicious food. Or dress it up by sipping a mouth-watering blackberry mojito on the porch at PM, the trendy neighborhood restaurant in the Belmont district. In the words of Calvin of Calvin & Hobbes fame, “It’s a colorful world, Hobbes, old buddy. Let’s go exploring.” Happy summer!

Before deciding on the destination, select a method of travel. Appoint a designated driver, or hire a car. Ride like a celeb with a Guardian Angel driver (wedriveyouride.com or 383-8283). For $30 an hour (at a two-hour minimum), a Guardian Angel driver will tote you and your gal pals wherever you want. If you want a break from from your regular ride, call Matchless Limousines at 620-LIMO. Choose from a variety of cars — Rolls Royce, Jaguar, even the city’s only London Taxi. — Beth Raebeck Hall
