Internet is Power: Get the scoop
I’m a fan of knowing what folks are talking about, which I guess makes since I basically talk to and listen to folks for a living. If you are word-obsessed like me then you’ll really dig TwitScoop, the website that tracks in real time the most frequently used words on Twitter.
TwitScoop is like a lava lamp. Its flow is memorizing and its vibe is cool – but it’s better than a lava lamp because it’s not ugly and it’s educational.
For instance, as I type this post the words “dinner” “massive” “nightmare” and “transit” are very popular. The most popular word right now is “Github.” Since I have no clue what that means, I Googled it. That led me to discover that Github, a massive secure hosting service, is currently down and geeks are freaking out. Who knew? TwitScoop did.
The coolest part is that the words on TwitScoop grow, shrink and disappear based on popularity. Sunday the word “sad” was extremely popular. It made my heart hurt watching that word swell up to nearly twice its original size. I still wonder what made so many folks so sad all at once.
Even if you aren’t into Twitter (although I can’t fathom why you aren’t) you can still find entertainment and knowledge at TwitScoop. Oh, and by the time I finished typing this post, the words “MSNBC” and “Rachel Maddow” have replaced “Github” as most popular (apparently she’s replacing Abrams on that network). Meanwhile, the phrase “terrorism police” is trending up…
It’s fascinating stuff I’m telling you! And if you DO twitter, you can follow me at
