Best. Conference. Ever.

Nothing says “Happy 3rd wedding anniversary!” like a good geek conference. We think so, anyway, and have already registered for SXSW (South by Southwest) INTERACTIVE FESTIVAL in Austin next March.

We try to go every year (except this year because hubby went to CHINA). We attend about a million technology sessions, eat lots of Mexican food, drink free beverages and celebrate our vows. Yes, we’re total dorks. We don’t even try to hide it.

Hubby takes the developer/designer track and I take the marketing/social media track. It’s all very geek-tastic and I’m usually the only female there who has ever painted her nails or had highlights put in her hair. I got a lot of strange looks when I started applying Mac lip gloss in the middle of the Q&A session last year, but whatever.

We were there when they launched Twitter in 2007. At the time I thought, “How on earth would this ever be useful?” It’s only now that Twitter has become the next big thing that I realize how cool it was to see it first.

Even though the conference isn’t really intended for PR flacks like me, I always come back feeling more creative than when I got there and ready to take on the world.

Wanna join us? If you aren’t into the geek stuff, you could always hit up the SXSW MUSIC AND MEDIA CONFERENCE or the SXSW FILM CONFERENCE AND FESTIVAL.
